How to download M3U8 video

M3U8 is an HLS playlist rather than a complete video file. It can describe several qualities, audio tracks and media segments. A downloader reads the playlist, retrieves those segments and packages them into a playable file.

Step 1: Play the source video

Open the video page and start playback so the page requests its media playlist. Reload pages that were open before the extension was installed.

Step 2: Choose the detected media

Open FetchMV from the browser toolbar. Prefer an HLS or M3U8 item. Download uses the best quality and matching audio; Download options lets you choose resolution, audio, subtitles or audio-only.

Step 3: Wait for packaging and saving

The website task page shows download, packaging and save progress. Closing it pauses downloading. Choose the same media again to reopen the website and continue. Your browser saves the finished file locally.

When should I record instead?

Record a tab, window, screen or part of a web player when no usable URL is detected, the source keeps returning 403, or the playback system is unsupported. DRM and access-control bypass are outside this product.
